Final PA Built KME Truck Serves Local Community

April 20, 2022
The final KME truck built in Nesquehoning, Pennsylvania plant will serve locally with the Lehighton Fire Department.

The final KME truck built at the now closed Nesquehoning, Pennsylvania plant will be serving the community of Lehighton just a few miles from the factory.

The Lehighton Fire Department will be getting the last truck to come off the line, a new 109' AerialCat ladder to replace their 1989 aerial.

"It's bittersweet. I mean, obviously, having KME so close to us, it was really easy. We have a lot of members, a lot of community members who worked there. So it was always nice to have a piece that was built close to home by people in the community, surrounding communities, that had hands in the workmanship of this vehicle," Lehighton Fire Chief Patrick Mriss told WNEP 16 News.

Chief Mriss said while at the plant conducting production inspections, workers expressed how much it meant to have the final truck serving locally.

Lehighton firefighters never imagined they would receive the final truck built at the Nesquehoning plant, but are grateful they did.
